Journey into Healing History
Journey into Healing through Residential Workshops in Christian Groups
Anne White author of the book A Healing Adventure visited the UK from America in the late 1970’s to introduce her approach to the healing ministry. Following this conference, The Revd Ian Davidson, Rev John Bedford and Dr Chris Andrew, a psychiatrist, invited groups to come together in Bedford to continue this ministry in working with Christian healing groups.
In addition Clinical Theology and the Psychiatrist Frank Lake became a source of teaching and inspiration for many of those who became team members.
1983-1990 Christian Growth and Gestalt
The Christian Growth and Gestalt Weeks were first introduced by Revd Ian Davidson when he became the Warden of Scargill House in the Yorkshire Dales. Angela Weaver, Sharon Stinson, Dr Marie Bew, and Revd Sue Rose became part of the team.
Ian and Sharon
Drawing on his experience during this time Revd Ian Davidson wrote his book Here and Now (DLT 1991) in which he outlines working in Gestalt encounter groups and details several case studies.
1990-1997 Here and Now
Here and Now becomes the new conference title as Ian moved to become part-time warden at Carberry, Mussleburgh, Scotland. Revd Ian Davidson and Marie Bew become joint co-ordinators. Also Canon Mark Wilson, and Andrew Miller, a Scottish therapist, join the team.
1998-2004 Journey into Healing
The week-long conferences at Carberry continued until 2000. In 1998 the title once again changed. Journey into Healing seemed a more accurate and understandable title for the now established conferences. Responding to the needs of those who cannot attend a week, the retreats become available on weekends in England at various venues.
Marie Bew became the co-ordinator working closely with Canon Mark Wilson and Sharon Stinson. Other regular members of the team include Chris Woodcock and Penny Fraser.
Revd Angela Weaver again rejoined the team in October 2003 at Scargill.
